Andrea Stokes
Andrea Stokes
Andrea Stokes' lifelong passion for painting was nurtured and grew from her early education at the School of Art in her home town of Penzance. Initially attending weekend classes there as a child, Andrea continued her artistic training as an adult, taking classes in painting with tutors William Tudor and the renowned etcher and engraver Edward Bouverie Hoyton, alongside ceramics tuition from Bill Picard, and classes in modelling and form with the internationally-recognised sculptor, Barbara Tribe.
Now painting exclusively in oils, Andrea's work is characterised by deceptively simple compositions imbued with a distinctive sense of tranquillity, achieved through her fascination with light, texture and vibrant colour. Frequently inspired by her West Country surroundings, Andrea's accomplishments in sailing give her a unique perspective whilst providing additional subject matter in depictions of hidden beaches and coves only accessible by sea.
With numerous gallery displays to her credit in both mixed and solo exhibitions, Andrea has also received many commissions including several from the Island Hotel, Tresco, Isles of Scilly. Her paintings can also be found in private collections across the UK, Germany and the USA, and in the private collection of the Dorrien-Smith family, Tresco Abbey, Isles of Scilly.
